In accordance with the Jamestown Tree Ordinance; within town rights-of-ways, a tree larger than than 1ó-inch caliper may only be pruned or removed, and new trees planted, with the approval of the Jamestown Tree Warden. Tree removal is not allowed for view improvement. Tree topping is prohibited.Work done without a permit is subject to a $500 per tree fine. A permit is not needed to cut, trim or plant trees on private land.

Dead, diseased or hazardous trees will be removed by the Town. For other tree work, under Rhode Island state law, only a state licensed arborist may perform or supervise tree work within rights-of-way. Arboricultural work shall be conducted following the latest standards prepared by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI A300).Work shall also be subject to all safety standards for tree care operations established by ANSI Z133 and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
